Chicken Shawarma Secret Recipe


Shawarma Station has a speciality in this appetizing & succulent wrap. Different restaurant in Abu Dhabi have different recipes but the ingredients are similar. Today, we are sharing the recipe for making Shawarma at home. If you want to enjoy the traditional Ottoman Empire’s Shawarma, you’re more than welcome to Shawarma Station.

We eat various kinds of tasty & delicious dishes in our everyday lives. We have hundreds of iconic food recipes which we love to have in our meals. Shawarma is one of them, we have talked a lot about Shawarma & it seems really appetizing. This luscious & juicy spit-roasted meat is the perfect dish for lunch, evening snack, or even dinner.

Let’s find what you will need to make Shawarma:

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 c. extra-virgin olive oil
  • Juice of 1 lemon
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tsp. kosher salt
  • 1 tsp. ground cumin
  • 1 tsp. ground coriander
  • 1/2 tsp. freshly ground black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp. ground turmeric
  • 1/4 tsp. ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp. cayenne pepper
  • 2 lb. boneless skinless chicken thighs
  • Cooking spray
  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced

Now, let’s see how you can prepare these ingredients to make Shawarma:

Recipe:

To prepare the chicken: Whisk together oil, lemon juice, garlic, and seasonings in a large bowl. Add chicken and toss to coat. Put the container in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours and as long as overnight.

Cooking spray should be sprayed onto a large baking sheet and a 425° oven should be preheated. Add onion to marinade and toss to coat. Place the chicken and onion on the baking sheet after removing the chicken and onion from the marinade. Bake chicken for 30 minutes, until golden brown. Slice chicken thinly after resting for 5 minutes on a cutting board.


As a side dish, make the yogurt sauce by whisking together the yoghurt, lemon juice, oil, and garlic in a small bowl. A pinch of red pepper flakes and salt should be added. Served with yogurt sauce, chicken, onion, romaine, tomatoes, and cucumber on top of warmed pitas.

FOR YOGURT SAUCE

  • 1/2 c. Greek yogurt 
  • Juice of 1/2 lemon
  • 1 tbsp. extra-virgin olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, smashed and minced
  • Kosher salt
  • Pinch of crushed red pepper flakes

FOR SERVING

Serve Shawarma with:

  • Pitas, warmed
  • Chopped romaine 
  • Cherry tomatoes halved
  • Cucumber, thinly sliced
